Janine Antoni

Much of Janine Antoni's work is less about the visual outcome of the pieces, and more about the process used to make the pieces and the meaning behind the pieces.  For example, the soap and chocolate molds were about the process of cleaning oneself with oneself and feeding oneself with oneself, not about the visual elements of the work.  Another example is the rope she weaved with objects in her life.  The rope is a symbol of Antoni, not just a work of art viewed based on beauty.  The most interesting piece from the video, to me, was the cow hide.  She described the piece to include both the absence of the cow and the absence of her.  I was intrigued by the form because it reminded me of someone hiding or disguising themselves.  I'm interested in her  use of cows in her work.  As she stated in the clip, she had been drinking from the cow her whole life.  It reminds the viewer that we take many things for granted and do not show respect for what we have.
